As we all know Covid-19 lockdown saw all forms of fishing and coach education put on hold like most other sports. The Angling Trust were concerned that their coach education programme had ground to a halt and were keen to explore opportunities to address this issue.

Richard Hadley the Angling Trust Coaching Centre Manager and Lead Safeguarding Officer tasked his Coach Educator team to investigate whether a quality Level 1 Angling Support Coach course could be developed and delivered online.

Following several online conference sessions with our coaching community, the Angling Trust offered its first ever online Level 1 Angling Support Coach course.

Since that first delivery in late May more than 25 candidates have achieved their Level 1 Angling Support Coach qualification.

One such candidate was Christopher Randall.

Christopher is a very competent young angler who has competed in the Nottingham Anglers Association ‘Junior Open League’ for the past 4 years, is a participant in the Angling Trust’s ‘Talent Pathways’ programme and also a past winner of the Angling Trust’s National Junior Individual Championships.

With the support of an Angling Trust coach bursary Christopher enrolled and successfully completed the online ASC qualification in July. He is now a qualified 1st4sport Angling Support Coach! All this at such a young age too.

Christopher, nicknamed ‘Superman’ by his fellow juniors, what a great addition to his Curriculum Vitae. Christopher is a great role model and an inspiration to all of us!
